Anna Shwec passed away on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at the age of 79. Born on Friday, May 23, 1947, in Germany, to Maria (née Paslawska) and Konstantyn Gerega. Anna lived a life defined by deep faith, generous spirit, and unwavering devotion to those she loved.
Anna was the beloved wife of Mykola, with whom she shared a lifetime of partnership and devotion. She was a devoted mother to her son Andrew (Sandra) Shwec and her daughter Elizabeth (Jamie) Porta, raising them with endless patience, wisdom, and unconditional love. Her greatest joy, however, was her role as "Baba" to her cherished grandsons, Benjamin and William Porta, whom she adored beyond measure and spoiled with all her heart.
Rooted in her Ukrainian heritage and faith, Anna filled her home with warmth, the comforting aroma of traditional cooking, and the sound of laughter. She found strength and peace in her church community and treasured every gathering with family and friends, who will forever remember her kindness, her gentle smile, and the selfless way she cared for everyone around her.
Beloved sister of the late Nicholas (Tatianna) Paslawsky, Jerry Gerega, and Maria Becker. Anna is also survived by nieces, a nephew and many friends. She will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Family will be present on Monday, August 24th from 4-7 PM at the PIETSZAK FUNERAL HOME, 2400 William St., near Harlem Road, where Panachyda Service will be held at a time to be announced.
Relatives and friends are invited to assemble for Funeral Liturgy at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, 308 Fillmore Avenue on Tuesday morning at 10 AM. Please assemble at the Church.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in Anna's memory may be made to World Central Kitchen.
We invite you to leave a message on Anna's Guest Book or upload a photo to the Online Photo Album. Her family and loved ones will cherish these memories and hold them close as a reminder of the love and joy Anna brought into the world.
Vinchnaya Pamyat. Eternal Memory.
