Chris Schmidt, née Pirog, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026. Born on January 19, 1953, in Buffalo, New York, Chris led a life marked by dedication and warmth that touched the hearts of all who knew her.
Chris devoted her career to working as a factory worker at ASI Signs in Grand Island, NY, where her commitment and work ethic were deeply respected by colleagues and friends alike. Her steady presence and conscientious spirit were hallmarks of her professional life.
A beloved wife, Chris shared her life with her devoted husband, Phillip, whose partnership was a source of comfort and joy. She was the cherished daughter of the late Helen (née Kaluzny) and the late John A. Pirog, Jr., whose memories she carried with affection throughout her life. Chris also held a special bond with her siblings—Michael (Debbie) Pirog, Paul (Cynthia) Pirog, Robert Pirog, and Susan Knospe—who survive her and remember her with great love. Her family circle extended warmly to many nieces and nephews, who were fortunate to know their aunt’s kindness and generosity.
Friends and family are invited to gather in remembrance of Chris at the Pietszak Funeral Home, located at 2400 William Street (near Harlem), on Saturday, April 18th from 10 AM to 11 AM, where a funeral service will take place at 11 AM.
Chris's legacy is one of quiet strength, love for family, and a gratifying professional life that reflected her values. Her presence will be deeply missed, yet the memories she leaves behind will continue to inspire those who had the honor of knowing her. We invite you to honor her memory by sharing a picture in our online Photo Album or a favorite memory in our Guest Book on the Tribute page. Through these remembrances, her enduring spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us all.
