David Warren
Hoyden, Sr.
January 15, 1936 – December 17, 2021
The retired owner of the former DeVincentis Shoe Store, David Warren Hoyden, Sr. passed away at Elderwood at Amherst, at the age of 85. David ran the DeVincentis Shoe Store for over 40 years after taking it over from his father-in-law, Anthony DeVincentis, and continuing the family shoe business.
David was a US Army Veteran of the Korean War Era, serving as a Specialist E-4 in the 42nd Artillery and also was a dedicated member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie 2692, in Depew, New York.
An avid gardener, David enjoyed the simple pleasures of mowing the grass, helping things grow, and of course the most important part, pulling the weeds. He was also a Tropical Fish enthusiast, a devout Sabres fan, and created fond memories with over a decade of trips to Disney and visiting the Magic Kingdom with his children and grandchildren.
David was the best friend and husband of 60 years to his loving wife Joanna (nee DeVincentis) Hoyden.
The devoted father of Karen Curtin Taneff and David (Jody) Hoyden Jr. and loving grandfather of David Hoyden III, Megan Hoyden, and Anthony "AJ" Taneff.
Born on Wednesday, January 15, 1936, to the late Dorothy (nee Wildy) Hoyden and the late John Emil Hoyden, h e was the dearest brother of Kenneth Hoyden and the late Jack Hoyden and dear brother-in-law of Dr. Joseph (Ellen) DeVincentis, Ruth Perkins and the late Diana (late Kenneth) Shelley and late Dr. Anthony (late Mary Jane) DeVincentis, the fond nephew of Dr. Donald (Eileen) Wildy, and was also survived by nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to assemble for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Philip the Apostle Church, located at 950 Losson Road, in Cheektowaga, New York 14227, on Saturday, January 15, 2022, at 10 AM with Military Honors taking place after the Mass.
Inurnment will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, in Cheektowaga, New York.
Face coverings will be required at all times during services.
