Dorothy A. Emens, a devoted wife, mother and homemaker, died unexpectedly at Holy Cross Hospital, Silver Spring, MD on January 7, 2013.
She was 93. A proud native of Buffalo and the daughter of the late Charles and Hattie Bliemeister. She was a graduate of South Park High School and the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT). After graduation in 1939, she was an interior decorator in Jamestown and at Hengerer's Department Store in Buffalo. During WWII, she proudly served at Curtis Aircraft, where she managed secretarial staff.
She married her husband, Major Justus A. Emens of Rochester, NY on March 28, 1943, when he returned from fourteen months of air combat duty in the Pacific and Mediterranean. Mrs. Emens met her husband while they both were students at RIT. Although she lived the majority of her life away from Buffalo, she was an avid fan of the Buffalo Bills and the Buffalo Sabres.
Mrs. Emens is survived by her two sons, John Emens of Atlanta, GA and Paul Emens of Virginia Beach, VA, four grandchildren and six great grandchildren.
A graveside service will take place on Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11 AM at Ridge Lawn Cemetery, 595 Pine Ridge Heritage Blvd, Cheektowaga, NY 14225.
A memorial service will follow at the Hilton - Garden Inn at 4201 Genesee Street, Cheektowaga, NY 14225.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests those who wish to make a memorial contribution send it to the American Cancer Society at 101 John James Audubon Parkway, Amherst, NY 14228.
