IN LOVING MEMORY OF

Wheeler
November 21, 1941 – February 20, 2026
Celebration of Life
Pietszak Funeral Home
3:00 - 7:00 pm (Eastern time)
Ernest Duane Wheeler, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend, passed away peacefully on February 20, 2026, at the age of 84.
Born on November 21, 1941, in Kansas City, Missouri, Ernest was the son of Tessie J. (née Scott) and Ernest D. Wheeler. From his earliest days, he carried with him the values of hard work, integrity, and kindness—qualities that would define his life and the legacy he leaves behind. He proudly answered the call to serve his country, honorably serving in the United States Army from 1962 to 1965. The discipline and patriotism he learned during his service remained foundational pillars throughout his life.
Ernest built a long respected career as a Realtor with Hunt Real Estate in Depew, New York. He was known not only for his professionalism and dedication to his clients, but also for the genuine care he showed to everyone he met. He took genuine joy in helping families find their perfect home. His work was more than a profession; it was an extension of his belief in stability, trust, and the importance of putting down roots.
Above all, Ernest cherished his family. At the heart of Ernest’s life was his beloved wife, Martha (née Briceno Escamilla), with whom he shared a deep and enduring love. He was a proud and devoted father to Wendy (Stephen) Anzalone, Judy Wheeler, Stephanie Naughton, and Rainiero Duarte. His family was his greatest pride and joy.
Ernest was a loving grandfather to Angelina (Bryan) Thuman, Stephano (Sydney) Anzalone, Michael Naughton, Kylie Naughton, and Anastasia Duarte, and a fond great-grandfather of five great-grandchildren. He treasured every moment spent with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, delighting in their accomplishments and milestones. His guidance, warmth, and steady presence will remain with them always.
Ernest was a dear and loyal friend to Dominic Russo. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins, all of whom will remember his generous spirit, steady wisdom, and welcoming smile.
Ernest’s life was one of devotion—to his family, his work, and the many relationships he nurtured over the years. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Family and friends are welcome to gather for a Celebration of Ernest’s Life at the Pietszak Funeral Home, 2400 William Street, near Harlem Road, on Thursday, February 26th, from 3–7 PM.
The memory of Ernest will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege to know him. His unwavering love for those close to him, paired with his gentle nature, will be fondly remembered. We invite you to honor his memory by sharing a picture or a favorite story in our online Guest Book on the Tribute page. Through these shared memories, Paul's enduring spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us all.
