Eugene John Walek, a proud Marine, devoted family man, and lifelong Buffalonian, passed away leaving behind a legacy of hard work, loyalty, and deep devotion to those he loved. He was born on December 8, 1946, in Buffalo, New York, to the late Roman and Martha (Bauer) Walek.

A man of strength and dedication, Gene answered the call to serve his country with honor as a United States Marine Corporal during the Vietnam War, from 1964 to 1968. He carried the discipline and camaraderie of the Corps throughout his life, later applying that same steadfast work ethic as a line worker for General Motors in Buffalo, where he contributed for many years. Known for his strong work ethic and steady presence, he built not only a career but lasting friendships along the way. He was also a proud member of the Big Timers Club, where he shared fellowship and memories with friends.

Gene’s heart was anchored by his deep and abiding love for his late wife, Rosalie “Ro” (Domogala) Walek. Their bond, which brought him profound joy, was a cornerstone of his life until her passing on February 15, 2018.

He is remembered with immense love by his sisters, Patricia (late Ralph) Davies and Phyllis (Michael) Hyla and his twin brother, late Michael Walek, his bestest buddy Mindy (Robert) Lacki; and his best friend, Mike (Lori) Ferraraccio. Eugene was a cherished Uncle who held a special place in the hearts of his nieces and nephews: Stacey “Stella” Grasso, Martha (Eric) Pieczynski, Kelly (Norman) Slater, Cody (Amber) Zmuda, and Andy (Tara) Davies. His warmth and guidance will also be deeply missed by many more nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews, and a wide circle of friends.

Beyond his service and work, Gene nurtured a lifelong passion for horses. Whether he was at the stables, watching the races, or caring for his own beloved horse, Peter Puck, he found a unique peace and joy in their presence. This quiet passion reflected the gentle strength that those who knew him admired.

Relatives and Friends are invited to Eugene's Mass of Christian Burial with Military Honors at Queen of Martyrs Church, 180 George Urban Blvd, Cheektowaga, NY 14225 on Saturday, February 28th, 2026 at 10 AM.

Flowers are gratefully declined. Memorials may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital or to Wounded Warriors.

Eugene Walek lived a full life marked by duty, love for his family, and simple, enduring pleasures. He will be profoundly missed, but the memories of his steadfast presence, his service, and the sound of hoofbeats will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew him. We invite you to honor his memory by sharing a picture in our online Photo Album or a favorite memory in our Guestbook below. Through these remembrances, his enduring spirit will continue to inspire and uplift us all.
