James passed away surrounded by his family on March 16, 2026. Born on December 10, 1936, in Buffalo, New York, to Verna (nee Ochocinski) and Hugh Gilhooly. He was a distinguished and dedicated Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist at Roswell Park Comprehensive Cancer Center for many years.
James was a man of great integrity, kindness, and devotion. He was deeply committed to his family and cherished his role as a husband, father, brother, grandfather, and friend. He is survived by his beloved wife, Diane (nee Higgins), with whom he shared a loving partnership. His legacy lives on through his devoted children: Michael Gilhooly, Thomas (Marianne) Gilhooly, Christine (Jim) Corbin, Kathy (Scott) Garton, Brian (Danielle) Gilhooly and Gail (Ken) Trometer. James was also the dearest brother of Gerald (Peggy) Gilhooly.
James’s family was extended and rich, including many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and cousins who will carry forward his memory with love and respect.
Family and Friends are invited to gather on Friday, March 20, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Pietszak Funeral Home, located at 2400 William Street in Cheektowaga, New York.
A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Saturday, March 21, 2026, at 9:00 AM at St. John the Baptist Church, 2021 Sandridge Road, Alden, New York. Please assemble at Church.

James' memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. His legacy of generosity, compassion, and kindness will continue to inspire all who were fortunate to cross his path. The Gilhooly family expresses their sincere gratitude for the support and condolences received during this difficult time.
