Obituary

Rev. Jerome J. Stelmach, affectionately known as "Fr. Jerry", passed away on Saturday, January 17, 2026. Born on Saturday, July 17, 1954, he was a devoted son to the late Ann (nee Natanska) and the late Harry Stelmach. Fr. Jerry was a beloved brother to Denis (Marie) Stelmach of South Carolina and a loving uncle and godfather to Aron (Beth) Stelmach of Mt. Holly, North Carolina. He is also survived by cousins, several friends, and a cherished and loving friend of the late Sister Mary Christinette, CSSF.

Fr. Jerry's educational journey took him through St. Adalbert Basilica Elementary School, Maryvale High School, John F. Kennedy High School, St. Mary's College at Orchard Lake, Michigan, and Christ the King Seminary in East Aurora, New York. He was ordained on November 14, 1980, at St. Joseph's Cathedral by Most Reverend Edward D. Head, Bishop of Buffalo.

His ministry began as a Deacon at St. Stephen's Church in Grand Island, New York, followed by assignments at Our Lady of the Blessed Sacrament Church in Depew, New York, St. Bernard Church, and St. John Kanty Church in Buffalo, New York. He was named Pastor of the former Transfiguration Church in Olean, New York, where he served until its merger in 2009. He was later recognized as Pastor Emeritus of the Transfiguration RC Church in Olean, New York, after 17 years of dedicated service.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects during the visitation on Sunday, January 25, 2026, from 12-4 PM at the Pietszak Funeral Home, 2400 William Street, in Cheektowaga, New York (near Harlem Rd.).

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Most Rev. Michael W. Fisher, Bishop of Buffalo, at St. John Gualbert Parish, located at 83 Gualbert at Doat Street, in Cheektowaga, New York 14211 on Monday, January 26th at 11 AM, following a visitation from 10 AM to 11 AM at the Church.

Fr. Jerry's legacy of love, resilience, and joy will continue to inspire all who had the privilege of knowing him.
