A retired Environmental Health Technician for the Erie County Health Department, John Wladyshaw Cieply, Sr. passed away at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital on June 21, 2020, at the age of 87.

John graduated from Erie Community College with an Associates Degree in Food Management. He attended SUNY @ Buffalo - Millard Fillmore College toward a degree in Civil Engineering.

A proud Army Veteran stationed in Alaska serving from 1955 to 1957.

Mr. Cieply was a member of Doyle Hose Co. #1 for 58 years, where he held many company positions including, past President and Parade Marshall. Twice elected Delegate to NYS Firemans Association, Life Member to the Southwestern Association of Fireman, Western NY Association of Firemen, and Cheektowaga Exempt Association. John was also a member of the Erie County Association of Firemen, Holy Name member of St. Josaphat Church, where he also served as President of the Society. Elected Member of Cheektowaga Sloan School Board where he served from 1979-1984. Third and Fourth Degree member of Knights of Columbus. John also enjoyed bartending at Major Country Clubs, jogging, and doing crossword puzzles.

He was the beloved husband of late Martha "Marcia" (nee Falkiewicz).

A devoted father of John, Jr. (Margaret) Cieply and Joan Cieply.

Loving grandfather of Dr. Stephen Cieply and Jessica Cieply.

Mr. Cieply was predeceased by his parents the late Andrew and Josephine (nee Herod) Cieply, and his siblings late Frank Cieply, late Marsha (late Peter) Pencek, late Edwin Cieply, late Irene (late Albert) Maciejewski, late Stanley (Teresa), late Phyllis (late Joseph) Wasik and the late Henry Cieply

Mr. Cieply was also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

The family will be present on Wednesday, June 24th, from 4-7 PM at the PIETSZAK FUNERAL HOME ~ 2400 William St., near Harlem Rd.

Relatives and friends are invited to assemble for a Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday at St. Josaphat Parish, at William & Peoria Ave., on Thursday morning at 9 AM. Please assemble at church.

Entombment will follow at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Cheektowaga, New York.

In accordance with New York State guidelines, current capacity restrictions may cause delayed entry. Please be mindful that while you are attending the services for Mr. Cieply,  face masks, and social distancing will be necessary at all times.  Thank you for your support and understanding.
