At the age of 58 in Olean, NY,  a US Marine Corps Veteran during the Vietnam War,  John was the custodial engineer of pools, at the YMCA, in Olean, NY.

While living in Buffalo, NY, he was instrumental in initiating the "Portable Trailer Dropoff Mode" for donations at Goodwill Industries.

He was the beloved son of the late Margaret (Meyers) and late Howard Stevens and was survived by his sons's James and John and the dearest brother of Rosemary (Michael) Stanton, Barb (Raymond) Winkowski, Teresa Young, Margaret Nichols, Ann (William) Steins and the late Howard (late Judy) Stevens, as well as, many nieces and nephews.
