IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph F.
Sinkewicz, Jr.
June 18, 1954 – May 5, 2016
Joseph F. Sinkewicz Jr. Attorney, succumbed to multiple sclerosis (MS) at the age of 61 surrounded by close friends and family. Predeceased by his mother, the late Delores (Bator), Joe is survived by his father, Joseph F., Sinkewicz, Sr., and stepmother, Lucinda; brother, Robert Sienkiewicz of Buffalo, NY; sister, Linda (Douglas Gillen) of San Francisco, CA; and cousins of the Bator family originally from Pennsylvania.
Joe was born in Scranton, PA. He grew up in Wellsboro, PA, as well as Corning, NY where he graduated from high school.
As a youth Joe was full of boundless curiosity and energy. He was an altar boy, Eagle Scout and assistant scoutmaster, winner of a Regents Scholarship, and National Merit Scholar runner-up. After college he cross-country hitchhiked extensively throughout the US and Canada. Joe was a protest activist in the 1970's, and supported the repeal of anti-marijuana laws. He considered himself a Yippee, and co-founded the "Cold Spring Warehouse" in Buffalo. He enjoyed gourmet food, loved movies, art, eclectic music and was an avid reader. Joe had many friends, and was often seen riding his bike around the neighborhood.
An English graduate from SUNY Buffalo with a focus on media studies, Joe also obtained his law degree from SUNY Buffalo, passing the bar exam his first time. As a solo practitioner, Joe primarily worked to defend lower income and disadvantaged clients, and assisted those with real estate needs.
Joe received special kindness and support from Lisa Burdick (Buffalo), and was blessed to have a devoted brother, Bob, who looked after him in his times of need. The Erie County Bar Foundation also provided generous assistance when needed.
It was Joe's wish to donate his body to the University of Buffalo Anatomical Gift Program.
A memorial gathering will be held Saturday, June 18, 2016 ~ 3-7 PM at the Adam Mickiewicz Library, 612 Fillmore Ave. Buffalo, NY 14212.
Donations in Joe's memory can be made to a personal charity of choice.
