Obituary

A retired Postal Clerk at the United Stated Post Office since 1973, Leo A. Pawelek, passed away at Hospice Buffalo, Inc., in Cheektowaga, New York, at the age of 92.

He was the cherished husband of over 68 years to the late Sophie (nee Wnuk) Pawelek and devoted father of Christine (John) Jasinski, Barbara (Joseph) Desiderio, Ann Dewyea, Leona (Jerry) Kozlowski, Linda (Thomas) Mittner, Leo (Suzanne) and Andrew Pawelek.

Loving grandfather of Robert Jasinski, Bernadette (Bryan) Knighton, William (Elizabeth) Jasinski, Jennifer (Jeffrey) Parker, Angela (Finace-Rob Phillips) Desiderio, Dwayne (Kathy) Dewyea, Michael (Dina) Dewyea, Keith (Kaili) Kozlowski, Jaclyn (Gene) Nawotniak, Nichole (Scott) Weinstein, Melissa (Angelo) Natale, Thomas (Jessica) Mittner, Taylor (CJ) Mittner, John Pawelek, Brandi Pawelek, Andrew (Stefanie) Pawelek and Scott (Amy) Woodley as well as great grandfather of Ryan, Jason, Rebecca, Derrick, Mitchell, Madison, Ethan, Noelle, Kierstin, Megan, AJ "Austin", Paige, Kennedy, Hannah, Jacob, Jordan, Jacob, Gavin, Peyton, Aryana, Angelo, Eric, Connor and Josey.

Dearest brother of the late Josephine (late Frank) Chudy, late Chester (late Nancy) Pawelek, late Stanley (late Ruth) Pawelek and the late Laura (late Jim) Buncy.

Dear brother-in-law of Helen (late Al) Obarka, Mary Graue and the late Stella (late Stanley) Dawidowicz, late John Wnuk, Jr., late Anna (late John) Bak, late Wanda (late Stanley) Czapski, late Joseph (late Eleanor) Wnuk and late Felix (Kathryn) Wnuk, and late Irene (late Richard) Glaze and also survived by several nieces and nephews.


Family will be present on Sunday from 1-5 PM at the PIETSZAK FUNERAL HOME, 2400 William St. (near Harlem) where a Funeral Service will follow visitation at 5 PM.

Inurnment at St. Adalbert Cemetery, in Lancaster, New York, will be held at a later date.


Leo was a World War II Army Veteran and served in the 574th Signal Aircraft Warning Battalion, as a Radio Operator.  While serving in New Guinea and the South Philippines Leo, received the American Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, a Presidential Unit Citation and World War II Victory Medal for his service.
