IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Leo A.
Wabick
April 3, 1925 – January 26, 2021
At the age of 95, a US Navy Veteran who served during World War II. U.S. Naval Reserve - Selective Volunteer. Mr. Wabick joined the Navy on May 5th, 1944. He left home on May 28th, 1944 with his outgoing unit, where he set off for a 7 week boot camp training. Leo served on the USS Sarasota - Amphibious Personal Attack Transport (APA 204). The USS Sarasota was Commissioned on August 16, 1944 in Richmond, California. The USS Sarasota went out to sea from Oakland, California. Leo stepped off the ship for the first time on March 20, 1946. A few months later on May of 1946 he was Discharged from Lido Beach, Long Island New York. The USS Sarasota was then decommissioned in August 1946. Leo received the American Theater of War Medal, Philippine Liberation Ribbon 1 star, Asiatic Pacific Theater 2 bronze stars and a Victory Medal.
Leo retired from the Pennsylvania Railroad in Buffalo where he worked as a Switch Cleaner.
A loving son of the late Ludwina (nee Czarnik) and late Andrew Wabik.
Beloved husband of the late Ann (nee Niejadlik) Wabick.
Devoted father of Catherine Wabick and Patricia (Timothy) Goller.
Loving grandfather of Corey (Katie) Szczesny, Lisa (Geoff) Liedke, Lucas (Jennifer) Goller, Alison (Daniel) Hoeh, Emily (Jeremy) Griffin and Andrea Josephs.
Fond great-grandfather of twenty-one and also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Leo is predeceased by his 4 sisters and his brother.
Family present Friday 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the PIETSZAK FUNERAL HOME, 2400 William St. Relatives and friends are invited to assemble for a Mass of Christian Burial at Church of the Annunciation (7580 Clinton St. Elma) Saturday at 10 AM.
Face coverings and social distancing will be required. Current capacity restrictions may cause delayed entry.
The family appreciates your prayers and concerns for their Father and grandfather, during this time and would like to thank you for your outpouring of love and support they have received.
