The former Leona Skutnik, passed away at the age of 86, at Sister's Hospital, Buffalo, NY, of complications of surgery.
Also known as Lee, she was the beloved wife of
the late Chester Ziobro who predeceased her in 2005.
The devoted mother of Valerie
Ziobro, of Falls Church, VA
, Thomas
Ziobro of Buffalo, NY (her live in caretaker) and
James (Dolores)
Ziobro, of Rochester
; devoted grandma of Francesca-Rose Ziobro.
She was the sister of the late Matthew Skutnik and late Virginia (late Anthony) Koszelak and loving aunt of Norman Koszelak and Karen (Mario) Rossi and many other nieces and nephews.
Leona lived a life full of caring, generosity and responsibility. Leona was the youngest employee, male or female, to be Liaison of Special Services for the New York Central Railroad during the 40's at the tender age of 17. She was solely responsible for the scheduling and the logistics of unscheduled special trains serving the wounded soldiers, hospital staff, medical equipment and VIPs requiring rail transport. Her exemplary work at New York Central eventually led to employment with the Buffalo School district at City Hall. After retirement in 1982, Leona devoted her life to her family, especially her dear mother, Marie Skutnik, as well as relatives and friends/assisting in any way she could.
In her 80's, Leona was in very good health, a firm adherent of all-natural remedies, herbs and vitamins. Some of her favorite outdoor pastimes were walking the Delaware Park ring road -- carrying water during the drought to the new trees planted after the October storm. She relished keeping up with the antics of animals in the Buffalo Zoo and exploring forgotten recesses of history on strolls through the Forest Lawn Cemetery. An unwavering allegiance to the daily Buffalo News crossword puzzles and a regular reading regimen kept Leona mentally keen.
Leona was an active member of St. Stanislaus R.C. Church. She served for countless years as both an officer and member of the Rosary Society, bringing her glow of empathy and humility with her.
