Obituary

Leonard Mazur, age 91, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away on Tuesday, June 12, 2018, at Millard Fillmore Suburban Hospital, in Amherst, New York after a struggle with Alzheimer's.

Born on Friday, March 25, 1927, in Buffalo, New York, Leonard was the son of the late Sophie (nee Rusin) and late Valentine Mazur. After a few years as an Assemblyman at the Curtis Wright Corporation, he joined the US Navy on December 20, 1945 and served stateside as a Seaman First Class, with the FASRON-3, Bombing Squadron Twenty and Fighting Squadron Ten Able, before being released at Charlestown, Rhode Island on October 20, 1947 and received the World War II Victory Medal, for his Honorable Service. After his return from serving his country, he found his way, to begin working as a Welder at General Motors Corp., in Tonawanda, New York, where he worked for over 31 years, before retiring.

Also after his time in the service, Leonard, met and married, the love of his life, the late Agnes (nee Serafin) Mazur, who passed away, on February 10, 2014. They are survived by their devoted children, Russell (Theresa) Mazur and Paul (Cindy) Mazur. He was also the loving grandfather of Robyn Mazur, Jessica Mazur, Allison Mazur, Brenna Mazur, Rebecca Mazur and Matthew Mazur.

Leonard was the dearest brother of Richard (Patricia McCue) Mazur, Sylvia Dabrowski and the late Chester (late Alice) Mazur and late Adolph (late Sophie) Mazur and also survived by nephews and friends.

In keeping with Leonard's wishes, his body was donated to the University of Buffalo for Anatomical study.

Relatives and friends are invited to assemble for a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Philip the Apostle Parish, located at 950 Losson Road, Cheektowaga, New York14227, on Saturday, June 23rd, 2018 at 11:15 AM.

Those that would like are welcome to offer a contribution in his memory to the Alzheimer's Association, Western New York Chapter, at 2805 Wehrle Drive, Williamsville, New York 14221 or the Reinstein Woods Nature Preserve and Environmental Education Center, at 93 Honorine Drive, Depew, New York 14043 where he enjoyed spending time as a member of their Conservation Group.

Besides his love of Nature, Leonard cherished his retirement years which allowed him time to enjoy his other passions in life, Hunting, Fishing and especially Reading and to spend time with his fellow American Legion buddies as a member of the American Legion Frank Gierlach Post 1320, in Sloan, New York.
Military Honors performed by the U.S. Navy will take place at the Church after Mass.
