Born on October 10, 1926, in Ukraine, he was the beloved son of the late Petro Makowsky and late Elizabeth (nee Barabash) Makowsky. As he approached his 100th birthday, he had the extraordinary gift of looking back on a life filled with countless memories. On November 13, 1954, he married the love of his life, Valentina “Viola” (nee Zhybaj). Together, they shared nearly 72 years of marriage, building a beautiful life and a loving family. Their enduring devotion to one another was a testament to a lifetime of love, commitment and companionship. A hardworking and dependable man, he retired from the Ford Stamping Plant, where he stamped automobile roofs. He took great pride in his work and in providing for his family. His strong work ethic, determination and devotion to those he loved were qualities that remained with him throughout his life. His greatest legacy, however, was not measured in years, but in the family he loved so deeply and the lasting impression he made upon them.

He was a devoted father to Susan (Wilford) Ost and Lisa (William) Marx. His family was his greatest pride and joy, and he cherished the time he spent with each generation. He was the loving grandfather of the late Ryan Marx, Jennifer Rowe, and Roxanne (late Eric) LaManna; and cherished great-grandfather of Alex LaManna, Anya LaManna, Ethan Rowe, Audrey Rowe, Grace Rowe and Maddie Rowe.

Family will be present Thursday, September 10th, from 4-6 PM at the PIETSZAK FUNERAL HOME, 2400 William Street, Cheektowaga, NY where a Panachyda Service will take place at 5 PM. Relatives and friends are invited to assemble for a Funeral Liturgy at Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 200 Como Park Boulevard Cheektowaga, NY 14227 on Friday, September 11th at 10 AM. Please assemble at Church.

Burial will take place at St. Matthews Cemetery in West Seneca, NY.

Petro will be lovingly remembered by his wife, daughters, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, extended family and friends. The lessons he taught, the stories he shared, and the love he gave will continue through the generations. Though he has left this earthly life, the beautiful memories of him will remain forever in the hearts of those who loved him.
