Richard "Dick"
P. Szykowny
October 9, 1935 – September 9, 2021
The Owner and Operator of Dick's Music Store, on Clinton Street in the Kaisertown neighborhood for several decades, Richard P. "Dick" Szykowny, passed away at Mercy Hospital, in Buffalo, New York, at the age of 85.
Dick who had a passion for Polish Music, played bass for many years with the Jumping Jacks and then accordion with the Four Kings & a Jack. He was a past President of the Polka Variety Club, as well as a past President of the East Clinton Businessmen's Association. He also taught accordion and bass to several aspiring musicians both at his music store and in classes at St. Bernard's and other Lovejoy area grammar schools.
Known for his contagious Smile, Dick would light a room and brighten the day of everyone he came in contact with. In his later years, he drove a school bus for the West Seneca School District, traveled with his wife Marcia, to visit family and friends out of town, and also cruises and vacation trips. A devoted Buffalo Bills and Yankees fan, he also served in the US Navy during the Korean War as an Electronics Technician and was a recipient of the National Defense Service Ribbon.
Richard is survived by his best friend and the love of his life, his beloved wife, Marcia A. (nee Tytka) Szykowny.
He was a loving father of Rick Szykowny, Michael (Melissa) Szykowny, Philip (Tammy) Szykowny, and the late Eric Szykowny and a fond grandfather of Jake and Ryan Szykowny.
He was the son of late Virginia (nee Domanski) Szykowny and the late Joseph Szykowny and was also survived by many nieces and nephews.
The family will be present to receive family and friends on Friday, September 17, 2021, from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the PIETSZAK FUNERAL HOME, 2400 William Street (near Harlem.)
Relatives and friends are invited to assemble for a Mass of Christian Burial at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church (2158 Clinton Street, 14206) on Saturday, September 18, 2021, at 10 AM, with military honors to follow mass.
Burial will take place at a later date.
The family appreciates your prayers and concerns during these trying times and would like to thank you for your support and understanding.
