The following obituary is from the North Jersey Newspaper:
The Rev. Ronald J. Pecci, OFM, age 71, a professed Franciscan Friar for 42 years, and a Catholic priest for 38 years, died Monday evening, April 11, 2022, at Sharon Hospital, Sharon CT. He was a native of Brooklyn, NY. Father Ron, a member of the Holy Name (New York) Franciscan Province, graduated from St. Bonaventure University in Western New York State in Biology prior to entering the Franciscan Friars. He later received an M.A. degree in Biology from William Paterson University, NJ. In 2008 Father Ron completed his Masters Degree in Franciscan Studies at The Franciscan Institute of St. Bonaventure University. After four years of studies at the Washington Theological Union, he received priestly ordination in 1983.
A variety of ministries followed, including pastoral work, and, the preparation of candidates for entering the Franciscan Order. In New Jersey, Father Ron served as Associate Pastor of St. Joseph Church, West Milford, 1983-1985. Later he became Pastor of St. Anne Church, Fair Lawn, 1999-2005. Concurrently with his pastorate at St. Anne Church, Father Ron also served as a Provincial Councilor of Holy Name Franciscan Province. Thereafter he became Director of the Province's Pre-Novitiate Formation Program, based at Holy Cross Friary, Bronx, NY. Between his two New Jersey pastoral assignments, Father Ron served as Guardian and Pastor at SS. Rita and Patrick Church and the St. Patrick Friary, Buffalo, NY, 1987-1999.
Promotion to Director of the Novitiate Program for the year of the candidates' training in the Franciscan spiritual life took place in 2008. Father Ron held this position at St. Paul Friary, Wilmington DE until 2013. Appointment as Director of Postulants at Holy Name College, Silver Spring, MD followed in August 2013. He also served as Liaison to the Franciscan Friars' Interprovincial Novitiate.
A change of pace brought Father Ron to St. Anthony of Padua Church, Camden NJ, where he supervised the Franciscan Volunteer Program, 2016-2017. A further appointment to a Chaplaincy at Mount St. Vincent College, Bronx, NY took place in 2020. An onset of health problems caused Father Ron to move to St. Lawrence Friary, Beacon, NY, in 2021. Father Ron is survived by his Franciscan confreres in Holy Name Province and by his mother, Gloria Pecci.
He is also survived by his siblings, Raymond Pecci and his wife Lucille; Gail and her husband Glenn; James Pecci and his wife Deborah; Terryanne and her husband Phil; Carol and her husband Gene, along with many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews. He was predeceased by his father, Gabriel Pecci.
A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated at 10:15 am, on Monday, April 18, 2022, at St. Bonaventure Church, 174 Ramsey St., Paterson NJ 07501. A viewing was held prior to the mass from 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m. at the Church.
The burial was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Totowa NJ.
