IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sister Mary
Angeline (Donald) Bierut, Cssf
January 29, 1921 – August 8, 2017
Sister Mary Angeline, 96, a Felician Sister for 77 years, died in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center, Buffalo, NY, on Tuesday, August 8, 2017. The former Angeline Bierut was born on January 29, 1921, in Lackawanna, NY. She was a member of St. Michael Parish in Lackawanna. She entered the Immaculate Heart of Mary Province of the Felician Sisters in Buffalo, NY, on October 17, 1939, and professed perpetual vows on August 6, 1947. She graduated from Lackawanna High School and furthered her education at The Canisius College of Buffalo where she earned a Bachelor of Science and a Master of Science degree.
At the onset of her religious life, Sister Angeline spent 25 years assisting with the publication of a monthly magazine written in the Polish language titled, "Ave Maria" as a staff member and with editing. When speaking of this ministry, SM Angeline once wrote, "I worked alone in a corner basement room but rather than finding this monotonous, I became more spiritually alive."
Afterward, she began to teach Grade 4 at Sacred Heart School in Syracuse, NY, and Social Studies for two years at Sacred Heart High School in Syracuse. Upon her return to Buffalo, she taught at Holy Apostles SS. Peter & Paul and St. Luke Catholic elementary schools. The last elementary school at which she taught was St. John de LaSalle in Niagara, Falls, NY. From 1970 to 1982, she taught Social Studies at Villa Maria Academy in Buffalo.
Sister Angeline also spent several years assisting at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent Office. In 1986, she began her service at Villa Maria College of Buffalo as an Audio Visual Media assistant and a library technology assistant for Non Print Services for a period of 16 years. Using her fluency in the Polish language, she then focused on tutoring in the Polish/ English languages and translated some archival materials. She also assisted as a receptionist at St. Francis Residence Convent. On September 11, 2012, because of physical weakness, SM Angeline became a patient at the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center. Throughout her life, she was always actively engaged in lectures, activities and other events and she thoroughly enjoyed tutoring others. SM Angeline listened attentively to Jesus' words to her and put them into action through her gentle love for others.
