Sister Mary Felicity Wardzinski, college professor, recently celebrated Diamond Jubilee
Sister Mary Felicity Wardzinski, 93, a Felician Sister for 74 years, died in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center, on Friday, June 27, 2014. The former Irene Wardzinski was born on November 19, 1920, in Buffalo, NY. She was a member of St. Stanislaus Parish in Buffalo. She entered the Immaculate Heart of Mary Province of the Felician Sisters on July 7, 1939, and professed perpetual vows on August 6, 1947. After graduating from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy, Buffalo, NY, she furthered her education at The Canisius College of Buffalo with a Bachelor of Arts degree; at St. Bonaventure University in St. Bonaventure, NY, with a Master of Arts degree, and at the Catholic University of America in Washington, DC, with a Doctor of Philosophy degree..
Sister Felicity began her ministry at Queen of All Saints School, Lackawanna, NY, where she taught Kindergarten for 11 years. She used her musical skills to work with the choir at this parish. In 1950, she began teaching English at Villa Maria Academy, Buffalo, NY. She taught at the Academy intermittingly for a total of 12 years. Students remember her as an excellent English teacher. She also taught at Baker-Victory High School.
In 1966, SM Felicity became an Instructor of Philosophy at Villa Maria College of Buffalo for several years. At Boonville, NY, she had the experience of teaching religious education classes. Beginning in 1978, she served as Professor of Philosophy at Madonna University in Livonia, MI, for 7 years. She was the Associate Professor and Chair of the Philosophy Department at SS. Cyril and Methodius Seminary in Orchard Lake, MI, for a year. During the 9 years following, Sister Felicity served as Associate Professor and Chair of the Philosophy Department at St. Mary College in Orchard Lake, MI.
Sister Felicity returned to Villa Maria College of Buffalo in 1997 as a part-time instructor in Religious Studies and Philosophy until December 2004. Throughout her religious life, Sister Felicity was responsible for research and translations within the Congregation. One of her research projects focused on Blessed Honorat Kozminski, who guided Blessed Mary Angela spiritually during the early years of the founding of the Felician Congregation. Throughout her religious life Sister Felicity was an active participant in Provincial and General Chapter meetings at which major decisions are made for the Congregation.
Since December 2006, Sister Felicity's primary focus had been translating archival documents. At St. Francis Residence Convent, she assisted as a receptionist on a part-time basis. On October 13, 2013, Sister Felicity became a member of the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center due to declining health. She was an active participant in the liturgy to the very end of her life. Though very weak at the time, Sister Felicity participated in the Eucharistic Liturgy Celebration on Sunday, June 22, 2014 with three other sisters in thanksgiving for her Diamond Jubilee in religious life. God took her to himself on the Solemnity of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, June 27, 2014.
