Sister Mary Georgette Zielinski, CSSF, educator
Sister Mary Georgette Zielinski, 68, a Felician Sister for 50 years, died in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center, Buffalo, NY, on Sunday, June 14, 2015. The former Irene Zielinski was born on September 2, 1946 in Buffalo, NY, and was a member of Precious Blood Parish. She entered the Immaculate Heart of Mary Province of the Felician Sisters in Buffalo on June 21, 1964, and professed perpetual vows on August 1, 1971. She earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from Medaille College, Buffalo, NY.

Sister Georgette began her ministry in the field of Education as a second grade teacher at St. John Gualbert School, Cheektowaga, NY. She continued to teach in Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese of Buffalo for 18 years, mostly at the primary level. Her teaching experiences also extended to the Diocese of Syracuse at St. Mary School in New York Mills, NY, and to the Diocese of Ogdensburg at St. Peter School in Lowville, NY. She served as principal at St. Peter School for two years and at St. James School in Depew, NY, for six years. She immersed herself in education and was gifted specially in helping children learn and understand.

In addition to classroom involvement, Sister Georgette spent eight years teaching at the Villa Maria Learning Center in Buffalo. She also took care of a group of boys at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Home for Children, Cheektowaga NY, for three years.

In 2003, Sister Georgette was summoned to assist the aged and infirmed sisters in the Infirmary which is currently known as the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center. During eight of her ten year stay, she managed the dining room, helping the patients enjoy their dining experience. She then became involved in the Mission Awareness Program keeping the employees well-informed about the Felician-Franciscan ministry core values, and spreading Franciscan joy with thoughtful little gifts for them on various occasions. During the last year and a half, Sister served the poor at the Sister Mary Josette Food Pantry which is connected with Villa Maria College of Buffalo. This ministry gave her the occasion to extend hospitality to those in the neighborhood – a virtue which was a part of her being.

On April 17, 2015, Sister Georgette became a patient in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center since her health was declining. Her zest for life and love of conversation kept her in the mainstream of life in spite of setbacks many would consider debilitating. She simply walked confidently within the embrace of our loving God every moment of every day until she died.
