IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sister Mary
Janet Mazierski, Cssf
September 18, 1929 – November 28, 2018
Sister Mary Janet, 89, a Felician Sister for 69 years, died in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center, Buffalo, NY, on Wednesday, November 28, 2018. The former Lucille Mazierski was born on September 18, 1929, in Buffalo, NY. She entered the Buffalo Province of the Felician Sisters on September 17, 1949 and professed perpetual vows on August 13, 1957. She graduated from Riverside High School in Buffalo, NY. She furthered her education at The Canisius College of Buffalo with a Bachelor of Arts degree and at Medaille College, Buffalo, NY, with a Master of Arts degree.
Sister Janet began her ministry as a Catholic elementary school teacher at St. Casimir School in Buffalo, NY. She continued teaching students in grades 1 through 6 at several other Catholic Schools in the Buffalo Diocese. Sister Janet was a very good teacher who was well prepared for all her classes.
In 1964, Sister Janet began teaching at the secondary school level. She taught Latin, English and Spanish at Villa Maria Academy in Buffalo, NY, and at Sacred Heart High School in Syracuse, NY. She then served as the Director of Records at Villa Maria College of Buffalo from 1968 to 1972.
Sister Janet resumed teaching on the secondary level at Cardinal O'Hara High School in Tonawanda, NY, in 1972. She returned to Villa Maria Academy in 1980. Six years later she began teaching on a part-time basis. She was very well versed in the languages she taught. A dry sense of humor added to her rapport with the students. Sister Janet taught at Villa Maria Academy for a total of 28 years.
Her final years of ministry from 2006 to 2015 were spent as an assistant in the Provincial Archives. Because of ill health, Sister Janet became a patient in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center, Buffalo, NY, in July 2015. Being a private person, she spent much time alone enjoying music, praying and reading.
Sister Janet is survived by a niece, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her parents, William and Frances (Marlinski) Mazierski and her brother, Richard Mazierski.
A wake for Sister Janet will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Central Convent on Thursday, November 29, 2018 from 2 to 5 p.m. An Evening Prayer Service will take place on November 29, at 5 p.m. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent Chapel (Villa Maria, 600 Doat Street Cheektowaga, NY).
