Obituary

Age, 94, born Anne Slomka in Buffalo, New York to the late Scholastica (nee Ruszkowska) and Martin Slomka. Loving sister of the late Sister Mary Jeremia Slomka, CSSF, Mary Gongola, Charlotte Tyloch and Estelle Zientara.  Also survived by nieces and nephews.

Felician Sisters and family will be present at the Immaculate Heart of Mary (Villa Maria) Convent (600 Doat) on Monday 2-5 and 6-8 PM.  An evening Prayer Service will begin at 5 PM in the Convent Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday at 10 AM.

Interment will be in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Cheektowaga, New York.

SISTER MARY MARCILIA, CSSF, Nurse

Sister Mary Marcilia, 94, a Felician Sister for 75 years, died in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center, Buffalo, NY, on October 27, 2013.  The former Anne Slomka was born on July 1, 1919  in Buffalo, NY.  She was a member of Assumption Parish in Buffalo.  SM Marcilia entered the Buffalo Province of the Felician Sisters on July 8, 1938, and professed perpetual vows on August 12, 1946.  She graduated from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy in Buffalo.  She was a graduate of Mount St. Mary's Hospital School of Nursing, Niagara Falls, NY, and received her license to practice as a registered nurse from the University of the State of New York Education Department.  She also received a Certificate from the State University of New York at Buffalo for participating in the Geriatric Nursing Program.

Initially, Sister Marcilia taught Grade 2 at St. Hyacinth School, Dunkirk, NY,  She also taught at  Guardian Angel Day Care Center for 2 years.  Her involvement in Education was short lived as she began her studies in preparation for nursing.

At the completion of the nursing program,  Sister Marcilia began her ministry as a staff nurse at Villa Maria Infirmary in Buffalo.  She served as a Director for a year and a staff nurse practitioner for 13 years.  Her ministry as a full time nurse at Villa Maria Infirmary totaled 41 years.  She was a very conscientious nurse who insisted on giving the sick sisters the best care.  In addition to ministering at Villa Mairia Infirmary, Sister Marcilia served as a nurse at Assumption Villa in Ponca City, Oklahoma, for a half year and at St. Rita's Home for Children in Getzville, NY.
