IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Sister Mary
Sabinie Boczar, Cssf
July 25, 1920 – March 29, 2018
Sister Mary Sabinie, 97, a Felician Sister for 79 years, died in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center, Buffalo, NY, on Holy Thursday, March 29, 2018. The former Stephanie Boczar was born on July 25, 1920 in Buffalo, NY, to the late Andrew and Catherine (Marosz) Boczar, and was a member of St. John Gualbert Parish in Cheektowaga, NY. She entered the Buffalo Province of the Felician Sisters on July 8, 1938 and professed perpetual vows on August 12, 1946. After graduating from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy, Buffalo, NY, she furthered her education at Mount St. Joseph Teachers College, now known as Medaille College, Buffalo, NY, where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Education degree. She also held a Master of Arts in Special Education degree from The Cardinal Stritch College in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Sister Sabinie began her ministry as a primary grade teacher at St. Adalbert School where she taught for ten years. She continued teaching students at the primary level in various Catholic elementary schools in the Dioceses of Buffalo, Erie, Syracuse and Ogdensburg. Besides teaching in the Catholic School system, Sister Sabinie taught at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Home for Children in Cheektowaga, NY.
Having a special love and talent for working with young children, Sister Sabinie decided to focus on Special Education in her studies. She was able to use her skills in this area at Cantalician Center for Learning in Buffalo. Actually, she considered it a gift to work there "where I helped children to develop mentally and spiritually according to their God-given abilities." In the same article which she wrote on the occasion of her 75
th
Jubilee she admitted being totally impressed by their simplicity and innocence of these children. After twenty years of service at Cantalician Center, Sister Sabinie spent time at the Villa Maria Learning Center teaching in the Day School Program and assisting with remedial instruction.
In 1992, Sister Sabinie became a receptionist at the Institute of Music, Buffalo, NY. It was observed that she had excellent rapport with the music students and their parents. Her records were very accurate yet in the midst of business, she would take time to enjoy being with others. In 2007, she became a member of the St. Francis Residence Community where she assisted the sisters in every way possible. Because of ill health, she became a patient in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center on March 26, 2010. During her stay at the Center, Sister Sabinie was an active participant in many activities and very happy to be with her sisters at prayer, meals and other group gatherings.
Sister Sabinie is survived by her sister, Charlotte Zaidel together with nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Andrew and Catherine (Marosz) Boczar, brothers, Edward and Eugene Boczar and sisters, Helen Kruszynski and Alice Zajdel.
