At the age of 70, born Vivian Jean Maczonis in Syracuse, NY to the late Henry and Pearl (Todd) Maczonis
Sister Vivian is survived by one niece, nephews and cousins. She was predeceased by her sister, Linda Mento.
A wake for Sister Vivian will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Central Convent on
Thursday, November 16, 2017 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. and on Friday, November 17, 2017 from 2 to 5 p.m.
An Evening Prayer Service will take place on
Friday at 5 pm
. in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent Chapel (Villa Maria). A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on
Saturday, November 18, 2017 at 10:00 a.m.
in the Convent Chapel.
Interment will follow in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Cheektowaga, NY.

SISTER MARY VIVIAN MACZONIS, CSSF, Educator
Sister Mary Vivian, 70, a Felician Sister for 47 years, died in Blessed Mary Angela Care Center, Buffalo, NY, on Wednesday, November 15, 2017. The former Vivian Maczonis was born on December 24, 1946 in Syracuse, NY. She was a member of Sacred Heart Parish in Syracuse. She entered the Buffalo Province of the Felician Sisters on December 2, 1969 and professed perpetual vows on August 13, 1978. After graduating from Sacred Heart High School, Syracuse, NY, she furthered her education at Villa Maria College of Buffalo with an Associate Degree in Applied Science; at D'Youville College, Buffalo NY, with a Bachelor of Science degree and at State University of New York College at Buffalo with a Master of Science in Education degree.
Sister Vivian began her teaching ministry on the secondary level at Villa Maria Academy in Buffalo, NY, where she taught Business Education for a total of five years. She continued teaching Business courses at Sacred Heart High School in Syracuse, NY, Notre Dame High School in Batavia, NY, and Cardinal O'Hara High School in Tonawanda, NY, where she also taught Social Studies. Her teaching experiences in Catholic elementary schools were at Ascension School in North Tonawanda, NY, Sacred Heart School in Syracuse, NY, Queen of Martyrs School and St. Aloysius Gonzaga School, in Cheektowaga, NY. At the elementary level, Sister Vivian taught Social Studies and Computer Skills. She was a talented teacher who knew how to meet the needs of her students.
In August, 1995, Sister Vivian began ministering at Villa Maria College of Buffalo in various ways for a twenty year stay. During this time, she served in different roles. She was the Acting Assistant to the Vice President for Institutional Advancement; Technical Assistant for Computer Services; Part- Time Library Technical Assistant and Archives Aide. In 2008, she also began part-time ministry in the Development Office at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent where she assisted with clerical work. While serving at the College and Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent, Sister Vivian resided at St. Aloysius Gonzaga Convent, Cheektowaga, NY, for twenty-five years.
On July 1, 2015, Sister Vivian became a patient in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center and was given the opportunity to participate in a personal development program. She returned to the Care Center in September, 2017 because of serious illness. As she struggled with her physical problems, she continued to be her gentle, pleasant self toward the sisters in community, her family and friends and the staff in the Care Center until God took her home.
