Obituary
At the age of 95.
A Felician Sister for 77 years,
died in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center on July 23, 2013. The former Emily
Gorski was born on August 20, 1917 in Buffalo, NY. .She was a member of St.
Stanislaus Parish in Buffalo.
She
entered the Immaculate Heart of Mary Province of the Felician Sisters on July 6,
1936 and professed perpetual vows on August 12, 1944.
After graduating from the Immaculate Heart of Mary Academy
in Buffalo she furthered her education at Mount St. Joseph Teachers College,
now known at Medaille College, where she received
a Bachelor of Science in Education degree.
After completing further studies at the
State University of New York College at Buffalo, NY,
she received a Master of Science in Education degree.
Sister Mary Edwinette ministered
as a full time elementary grade teacher for 60 years, in the dioceses of
Buffalo and Syracuse, NY as well asi in Erie, PA.
Most of her years of teaching were spent in the Buffalo Diocese
where she taught at various parochial schools..
Sister Edwinette served as principal at St. Hyacinth School,
Lackawanna and as assistant principal at St. Andrew School, Sloan, and Our Lady
of Czestochowa School, Cheektowaga.
She also taught computer education and served as a tutor in several
Catholic elementary schools. At many parishes, Sister Edwinette was involved in
instructing students in the Religious Education programs.
In the Syracuse Diocese, Sister
Edwinette taught elementary grades at Transfiguration School and Sacred Heart
School.
In Erie, PA, she taught at
Holy Trinity School for one year.
She was a kind and meticulous teacher who was very attentive to the
needs of her students.
Sister Edwinette moved to the
Provincial House of the Immaculate Heart of Mary Province, in Buffalo, NY, in
1998, where she ministered to the sisters in many different ways.
She was very attentive to the needs of
the sisters and grateful for any kindness shown to her.
In November, 2006, due to failing
health, she became a patient in the Blessed Mary Angela Care Center where she
lived for seven years.
Sister Edwinette is survived by
her sisters, Alice Drabik, and Ann Lehman, her brother, Anthony Gorski, and
nieces and nephews.
She was
predeceased in death by her parents, the late Anthony and Victoria (Koszuta) Gorski,
her brother, Bernard Gorski, and her sisters, Irene Kornowicz and Tessie
Sniatecki.
A wake for Sister Mary Edwinette
will be held at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Central Convent (Villa Maria) on
Friday, July 26, 2013 from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m.
An Evening Prayer Service will take place on Friday, July
26, in the Immaculate Heart of Mary Convent Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Saturday, July 27, in
the Convent Chapel.
Burial
will follow in the Blessed Mary Angela Section
in St. Stanislaus Cemetery, Cheektowaga, NY.
