Yuri Hreshchyshyn was born in Buffalo, NY on July 27, 1959, the eldest among five children of Ukrainian immigrants Lidia Hreshchyshyn (Warecha) and professor of medicine Dr. Myroslaw Hreshchyshyn.

Yuri was employed by the Erie County Department of Social Services. He was also an active initiator of many civic organizations and community-oriented initiatives both in the United States and Ukraine.

Yuri was the devoted brother of Marta (Daniel Green) Hreshchyshyn, Nadia (Kevin) McQuiggan, Adrian (Maria) Hreshchyshyn, and Kusia (Loren Passmore) Hreshchyshyn; loving uncle of Mykola Green, Anya Green, his Goddaughter Sophia Green, Gregory (Ashley) McQuiggan, Alexander (Hannah) McQuiggan, Katrina McQuiggan, Mychael McQuiggan, Jakiv Hreshchyshyn, his Goddaughter Olena Hreshchyshyn, Oksana Hreshchyshyn, Zorian Passmore and Julian Passmore;  and great-uncle of Mykka McQuiggan and Quinlan McQuiggan.

He was the dearest cousin of Christine Chaws, Roman, Jr. (late Dorothy) Chaws, and their son Jacob Chaws.

Yuri was the best friend of several years to Allison Robinson and her children Tyler and Alexis.

The family will be present on Friday from 4-7 PM at the PIETSZAK FUNERAL HOME, 2400 William Street (near Harlem Road) where a Panachyda Prayer Service will be held at 7 PM as well as on Saturday afternoon at 12:30 PM, followed by a Funeral Liturgy at St. Nicholas Ukrainian Catholic Church, located at Fillmore and Oneida Streets, in Buffalo, New York at 1:30 PM.

Burial will take place privately at the Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery, in Goshen, New York.

Memorials in Yuri's name may be made to the charity of your choice.
